It is not everyday that a sophomore is the veteran in the clubhouse, but that is the role Abby Peterson found herself in on the Kent City Girls Golf team this fall. Abby was the only returning golfer for Kent City this season and looked to improve on a solid season as a freshman. Abby has proven to be a strong leader on the team, assisting Head Coach, Chad Dailey, in helping the 5 new members (no seniors) this year. She ended 15th in the conference out of 54 golfers and with that performance, an All Conference Honorable Mention nod. She consistently improved with every tournament and carded her career low of 104 at Moss Ridge Golf Course, the fourth and final CSAA Jamboree of the season. Her grit is admired by all of her teammates as she showcases the work she has put in on the links over the summer. Girls Golf Coach Chad Dailey is excited to have his team leader back for two more seasons, “ Abby is our team captain this year, a position I trusted her with unwaveringly. She’s very coachable, and constantly strives to get better. As the leader of the team, she does a great job working with and coaching the other girls on the team ”.
The Eagles as a team ended the season with two consecutive 7th place finishes in the CSAA and a 12th place finish at the MHSAA Regionals where Abby led the team with a 120 on the challenging Katke golf course in Big Rapids. It was also revealed this week that the team earned Academic All-State. Outside of athletics, Abby has a job, enjoys spending time with family, and loves getting to know her peers. She is excited about working this off season on honing her golf skills, so she can achieve at the highest level next season. Next year Abby and company will have their sights set on an even higher finish in the conference and Regionals after an off-season of golf under their belts!
