Boys Soccer Finishes the CSAA Tourney

The Kent City boys soccer team finished its CSAA Blue tournament run with a third-place finish last week. Senior midfielder Marcus Arechiga also wrote his name into the program’s record book.

The Eagles opened the week Monday at Grant and fell 2-0 to the Tigers. The result was a clear step forward from the teams’ earlier meeting this season. Kent City competed with one of the conference’s top sides and showed how much it has grown over the year.

On Thursday, the Eagles returned home to face the Newaygo Lions in the third-place match and won 3-2 to secure third.

Arechiga led the way with two goals and an assist. Maliq McLemore added a goal, and Liam Rath had an assist.

Arechiga’s two goals pushed his season total to 24, breaking the Kent City single-season record of 23 set by Jaret Jaramillo in 2022. He has broken the mark with the postseason still ahead.

Kent City is now 11-7-1 and opens district play at home against Tri County on Wednesday, Oct. 14, with kickoff at 6 p.m. Come out and support the Eagles as they begin their postseason run.
